Amy's 3-Day Journey

The Avon 3-Day is one activity of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, which began in 1993 as an initiative of Avon Products, Inc. The mission of the crusade is to provide medically undeserved women with direct access to breast cancer early detection and support services, and to fund medical research to find the cause of and a cure for breast cancer and other women's cancers.

Friends & Family,

I am writing as a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend and a woman. Over 1,000,000 women in America are living with undetected breast cancer. If I told you there was something you could do to help them find out and survive, would you be willing to help?

I, along with 3,000 other ordinary people, have made a commitment to participate in an extraordinary event—the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. It spans 60 miles over 72 hours, from Boca Raton to Miami. A group of regular people on a mission, determined to make their presence felt by raising 6 million dollars in one weekend. I am excited at the opportunity to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer—a cause that is close to my heart.

In order to participate, I am required to raise a minimum of $1900.00. I know it sounds like a lot—as a matter of fact, the thought of raising that kind of money almost prevented me from registering. You know that fundraising can be challenging – even in the best of times. Many things have changed in our world since September 11th, but the one thing we cannot let these horrific events change is our kindness. We must be kind without reservation. It is what makes us different than those who want to frighten us. Reaching out to help those who will never even know our name is a beautiful example of kindness.

I would never ask you to do something that I wouldn’t do myself, therefore I have started my fundraising with a personal pledge. I am asking you to add your pledge to that as I work towards my goal of $1,900.00. The money raised will go towards non-profit breast health programs, state of the art medical research and to provide support for medically underserved women in the United States. Last year the Seattle walk raised $4,600,000. Wow! That’s 3000 walkers raising $4,600,000. What an amazing display of hope, compassion and kindness! This is the first year that a walk is being held in Florida, I am sure that we can show them we can do just as well!

There are two ways to make your pledge, which is completely tax deductible. You can go online at www.bethepeople.com and use your debit or credit card. You’ll need to know that I’m walker #2364 in Florida. The other option is to mail your check (made out to Avon Breast Cancer 3 Day) directly to me with the enclosed form and I’ll submit it for you. I’ve enclosed a stamped self-addressed envelope to make this easy for you. I’ve also enclosed an extra form in case you know someone else who might be interested in supporting this worthy cause, please feel free to make additional copies as well. The donation form enclosed lists some suggestions for pledges, but ANY pledge, ANY amount, will be greatly appreciated. Whichever method you choose I hope that you will share this incredible experience with me. There are millions of people out there that need you and your support.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!
